Rats!
I guess I was going a bit squirrely waiting for the AN drivers to clear customs. Last Thursday I finally got my hands on them, so I can get on with building the cabs.
This will keep my hands busy for a while and I can maybe get my enthusiasms under control.
The amp from the MS is gone. If I get the chance I might take cab and driver out in the open and attempt to measure their combined response. I appreciate this is a long way from what I was originally thinking about, but you are looking at a man with a lifetime of compromised ideals...
However, that's a kind of side issue. I'd sure as hell like one of those Hawthorne augies. That looks like a kind of sensible thing to me. Moderately efficient, low Fs, 8 Ohms. Simple. No arguments about an enclosure. I emailed them to ask about shipping costs.
The really good news is that I ordered 8 CDs in a batch from Amazon. I never ever bought 8 albums at one time in my life before, not even discounts.

A driver I was looking at a while ago might suit your needs. It's a Peerless 830668 and it's fairly cheap ($60.00 here).
Put this in a 60 litre ported box, and you'll have an F3 of 30Hz.
Output with 50 watts max would be ~106db. An LM3886 chip amp could be enough power for moderate use.
Response is slightly peaked, but this is the trade off for the smaller box. If you can accommodate a bigger box, lower F3 and a flatter response would result.
hi there, i am a new in this hobby, where can i find a schematic diagram for a subwoofer amplifier that is using LM3886? tnx..
