Has anyone had any experience trying to use bucking magnets to shield speakers. I want to build a set of speakers for home theatre use. They will be placed about a foot from either side of the tv and by doing some experimenting with some speakers that I already have that arn't shielded. I am pretty sure at this distance from the tv any non-shielded driver will cause some distortion.
If I am able to use a bucking magnet to "shield" the driver and eliminate distortiion to my tv it will open up my selection of drivers a lot making design a lot easier.

You should have no problem using a bucking magnet for smaller midrange drivers and tweeters. However, they can become a problem when being used with subwoofers with large magnet structures.
Why might adding a bucking magnet to a sub cause problems?
I was about to try this with a mid I have that has a verry large
magnet. In this case I am less conserned with the stray magnetic
field and realy after a verry slight increase in sensitivity and a lowering of the QTS.
Thanks

By problems I was referring only to the stray magnetic field. When trying to shield a subwoofer, you may need to use larger bucking magnets due to the typically large magnet structure found on larger drivers. There should be no problems if you're not concerned with stray magnetic fields.
