I would also ask about these service manual - I have problem with noise at low levels, and I would like to look into, but also I don't want to damage it.

Hi Drifter, I also have 2645 preamp which is simillar to 2639 - I'm also wondering how to open it, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't open in the middle (i use microscope to look at the case ).
I think that on the bottom side - black cover is screved to the body - but I'm not sure

Opening 2639 preamplifier
This is an old thread, but this information can be helpful for anyone meddling with Bruel & Kjaer microphones.
The case is opened in the middle, but screwed clockwise to open (reversed thread). The metal is very soft, so be careful. I usually wind a cable around the housing to get a grip, but if that is not enough you should drill a hole in two wooden blocks and split them, to make a secure and soft grip. B&K have special pliers for this purpose (WA 0327), but I assume those are not cheap.
