Broken tweeter?

Hello! I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my tweeter. There is a pot to adjust the tweeter level and then it started to scratch more and more. I had to turn it up and down to find a spot that the tweeter was actually working. Then it just stopped working. It was obvious to me that it was just a broken pot, so I replaced it. However, the tweeter is still not working. What could that be? Could the broken pot break something else? I guess there is a crossover in there since it is a 3-way speaker? Could it be broken? Should I replace the tweeter itself?

Try switching tweeters etween the speakers. tweeter pots all kind of suck. if you can jumper around it or replace it with a fixed value resistor youll be better off.

Check the resistance of the coil, use a small DC 1 V and try to hear if it moves 'ticks'

Ok so I switched the tweeters and the faulty one still doesn't work. That says a lot. Does that mean I have to buy a replacement?

depends. fancy tweeters have replacement coils avIlable

Mine is not fancy at all (Sony SS-G3). In fact, I found those speakers in the garbage a few years ago They work fine though. They are not high end speakers, but they do not sound like crap. Just a rich guy that probably bought a better pair and threw them away. I just got a IQAudio Pi-DAC+ and Pi-Amp+ on my Raspberry Pi to replace my old and cheap amp that was falling appart. I still think it would be a good upgrade to hook better speakers on my new amp+dac. Some day...

The above is probably pretty much the nearest
replacement, buy two and replace both tweeters.

You mean I can de-dent the woofer with a vaccum cleaner?

Alright, so this would be the "decent" replacement? I thought "decent" would mean 100$ each I'm happy to know that these sell for 12$

Yes, carefully using the hose attachment and your hand to form a loose seal. or you could suck the entire cone off the woofer and ruin it.

The tweeter frame i am replacing measures 2" 3/4. Should I consider the one in your link as a direct replacement? Will it be a perfect fit?
