When a single phase bridge rectifier like the GBPC2504 from multicomp or fairchild shorts across, is there a defined current and time where the internal wire will open? Does the UL listing of the fairchild part versus the non listing of the multicomp(farnell) part, mean anything? The UL document # is E258596 on the fairchild part.
I want the transformer not to burn up if this happens. I lost a $90 car battery charger transformer last summer when the internal diode shorted across. The input circuit breaker of my PA amp has to sustain a turn on surge bad enough to dim the lights of the room, and doesn't shut off when the crowbar triac shorts the speaker out to ground, so I have some doubt the breaker will protect the $200 transformer if the bridge rectifier shorts across.
I've installed 25 W 0.1 ohm resistors between the transformer and the bridge input, but I need the room for something else- rail shutoff FET's.

Hi
Here is the datasheet; GBPC2504 PDF Datasheet 25 A Bridge Rectifer
You need to to use a soft turn on circuit, such as those using thermistors.

I read the datasheet. It doesn't have any short circuit current definition on it. The fairchild one has a UL listing, which I don't have access to.
I've put a CL101 soft start in this amp, but it doesn't do a thing for the insensitivity of the circuit breaker. Any circuit breaker I buy will either be OEM from Peavey to fit the circuit as designed without the soft start, or will have a curve suitable for motors, that is 11x current rating for 10 seconds. Does the UL listing mean anything about short circuit current?
