Hello, I'm building a 2.1 system whose satellites are driven by a nice Marantz PM78 (it works great but isn't a performer in the extreme low gamma, for this I really need a subwoofer), and I should want to take the signal for the sub just after its volume control. Seeking a good buffer or preamplifier, I've found The Bride of Zen, I've just loved it!
So I have two question for you:
- if I wire it directly to the potentiometer cursor, may it have a bit low input impedance? Can Bride of Zen be configured to offer an higher one?
- how do you advice me to supply it, through a Marantz internal supply line or through a dedicated supplier?
Here's the PM78 (now PM8000) schematics, where we can see there are two thread of +- 56 volts. In case, what of these, the power thread of the low current one?
Please, if you have to suggest me another point in the Marantz to take the signal, please do it. I just want it to be volume controlled, and I just want obviously to let the signal go clean to the satellites.
I thank you very much. Bye 🙂

Oh, HI MR NELSON PASS!! So, maybe I've not used a correct word, however I'd want to say that PM78 sounds the very low frequencies with less strength than other frequencies, this is because I need a subwoofer.
Just today I've studied PM78 scheme, and I've supposed that I can use the out line of the volume and flat amplifier stage, and so I can use a B1 Buffer instead. Please can you give me any suggestion?
I'm not able to understand what's the gain of that stage, I only hope that is > 1.
Thanks very very much🙂

I'm glad that you had the time to parse those schematics - I did
not.
I would go with the volume controlled output, but probably you will
need some gain. Many commercial subwoofers (I have some Velodyne
V10's) have enough gain and a crossover. Lacking that, you will need
some electronics which will provide that.
