Breaking-in Magnepans with subsonic signal

As a new Magnepans 1.7i owner, I’m in the break-in period. Really working that mylar membrane requires power, meaning loud listening. I can tolerate loud music only for a short period. So, I decided to push membranes with a very low frequency signal, where dipole baffle is acoustically in short circuit (+ human hearing is insensitive) and doesn’t produce any sound, even at high power. Using signal generator at 1 to 5 Hz, loudspeakers are pushed with continuous power. I can clearly see mylar membrane excursion.

My question to experienced owners is whether there is anything bad in that method. I’m using only 25 Wrms, but that is 10 times more than I need on average for listening. It should speed up break-in for low frequencies, compared to music listening.

I wouldn't recommend doing it either. Manufacturers sometimes advise against playing too loudly in the initial few days and weeks, though if the company recommends it then by all means go for it. If you absolutely want to do it DIY style, I'd suggest some audio in the 100-400hz range at a low-regular volume.

Magnepan bass already uses a weak single ended magnet system and overdiving a light membrane
that does not need it will only shorten the life of the speaker
Adding a sub will take care of the low end and put the Maggie in a region where it will perform its best

Well, all advices I would usually agree with 👍, except:
all Magnepan owners agree that they change sound after minimum 100 – 200 hours of break-in. I listen on low levels/power, so there is a very low strain/break-in effect. That’s why I tried with described procedure. Five hours on continuous 25 W was done and I will stop there.
I would not play them loudly.
Mind you, 25 W on Magnepans is laughable power. They suck several hundred W no problems.

Yes, that’s how it would be. I have an adequate sub devoid of any box coloration (KEF KC62).
