So I recently found a nice receiver from Braun, the Regie 520. I like its looks but it came untested and I have not heard a sound from it so far.
As I studied a bit about the model, I mostly found posts in german language I do not understand, but looking from the manual, and translating with google, I discovered I am missing one part:
The white plug you see on the left it is missing, it is a DIN 5 plug and according to the user manual the receiver does not work without it attached.
I could understand it connects the preamplifier to the power amplifier, so that makes sense.
If someone should have one of these plugs, I would ask kindly to please test with a multimeter to see what pins are bridged together - it should be very easy to replicate it with a blank Din5 plug, but I do not want to try it randonly and make costly mistakes...
Hope someone might have one and be willing to help me 🙂
Kind regards,
Sérgio

try google translate....
The thing is that even using google translator, I didnt found the information I need anywhere, and the german Braun forum do not accept new registrations 🙁

At pag. 5 you'll find the plug with connections (1-3 and 4-5)

wow, fantastic!!! Many thanks 🙂 Wish me luck!
hi!
I made the small bridged plug and it worked fine 🙂
Now: pre-amplifier and power amplifier seem fine on phono, but the tuner section is completely dead: no sound, no measures no noise - nothing.
Must devote more time to it, if anyone has a hint on where to look at... 🙂
Best regards,
Sergio

Ups, not sure if there are any differences, but this is a CEV 520... looking equal to a Regie 520..
So, I have been exploring, but how can I check the tuner section rectifier? It sounds like a probable culprit for not having tuner working neither the dash lights...

CEV 520 is the same.
The four lamps 801 .. 804 are connected to ac.
So look at fuses 802, 803 - and again:
have a look at C807.

Hmm, both those fuses are good, one I had to clean the metal it was a bit corroded. I sense 22V dc at the lamps, should I sense AC over there?!
To test the C807 Elko, I desolder it and test for continuity?
Any good way to know if the rectifier GR802 is ok?

The lamps are wired in series, so if only one is open - no light.
Buy a cheap LCR tester.
Gr 801 (where is Gr 802 ?): 55 volts dc on C806 ?

GR802 is the rectifier, right?
The lightbulbs are all ok, and the whole circuit is ok, just minimum resistance from the bulbs itself... could it be that there is DC present instead of AC and no path to negative?
I have a lot of experience on soldering, un-soldering, testing transistors and such, but as you already guessed, I am not an electronic engineer, eheh, so all help is very much welcome 🙂

Ok, small update:
I replace a new capacitor, C807, and a new variable resistor R807 (it was broken). FM is working just fine!!! 🙂
Still no AM or any other of the long waves, and no lights on the dash...
The lights are quite intriguing... If I get them going, I think I will stop the repairs... I do not use long waves anyway, but FM is good to have 🙂

I get 42v at C806, 20v at C807
I see also 42v dc going to the "Stereo" light (that doesnt come on also) and 20v dc to the dash lights.
I use a 40w lamp in series with the mains plug when tinkering with electric devices, the lamp glows very slightly when amp is on. Is it ok?

Post 14 etc. : I see you can work it out - but :
sorry I do not see Gr 802 in the schematic. If you know more - let us know.
Sorry again man, I am not obliged to teach you in every way.
If fm is working fine, why would you worry ?
Am was switched off a long time ago, only a hand full of stations left world wide.
(Complain world wide that your Braun regie 520 am does not work - ask Radio Moskau.)
Or in other words: if fm works - am works also, because it is an "addition to the scale".
More: if the stereo light does not come up it may be for different reasons:
no stereo transmission (rare case) , weak reception or error in the decoder.
If you want to keep us busy please describe any error in a way that keeps us working
for free (we are used do to this anyway in Germany..).
If not - help yourself.
Nobody would expect am working if there is no am transmitter in Europe ..
Post 16: if you see lower voltages while using a bulb in primary circuit (which
is a good idea for start up and testing ) why would you want to complain to have
lower supply voltages ?
If the ""Stereo" light" has xx voltage on one side without telling us the voltage on
the other side - just check the lamp ..
This is my last post here, because I suspect you should do your homework.
And - yes, you can.

Check if You have stereo sound first before attempting to light up the lamp. Is there a mono / stereo switch or AFC ?
The 19Khz pilot tone stereo trimmer could need an adjustment or some coil also.
If it has a strength meter You can tweak the trimmers and watch the needle, or use headphones. Try with an antenna and then disconnect it and fine adjust again. By the way ...RDP (Portugal) still transmitts in AM.

Dear as_audio,
do not meant to make you "work for free", people help each other only if they want to, they are clearly not obliged to.
I am however thankful for the help you provided.
For some experienced persons here, these are basic repairs, for someone like me who cannot fully understand what is going on, all help is precious, or the feeling that someone is following our efforts.
A few notes on your comments:
- there are a bunch of AM broadcasts still active in Europe, RDP antena 1 in Portugal for example, but a full list exists here: List of European medium wave transmitters - Wikipedia
And anyway, I do not get any sound when selecting long wave, I should at least listem to some static/interferences.
- Gr802 doesnt show on the schematic, but is present on my circuit, like can be seen on the photo I added yesterday. I think it is GR801, but they changed the number do not know why.

Hi MAAC0, olá! 🙂
my stereo lamp is burned, I must get a replacement, then I will try to find the trimmer and try to adjust it... thanks for the tip!
