Braiding long cables

Play out the length you need then fix the spool end and braid from there.

Then measure the extra that you need for length and play out more from the spool and finish the braid in that direction.

Could someone suggest how braiding cables (other than to keep related cables in the same cableform, for convenience in wiring/debugging a large system) achieves anything? My understanding is that cables carrying different signals should not be braided (unless already well screened and/or twisted) while cables carrying the same signal in antiphase should be twisted. I suppose braiding cables carrying the same signal in phase achieve some tidiness.
