I'm building a preamp with RIAA and digital inputs as well as normal analog inputs. I've got the RIAA preamp as well as the DAC worked out and am in the process of building, but I've got a few questions for the main preamp part.
I'm planning on going with the Bride of Zen circuit, it's low parts and simple (I'm on a very low budget, so I chose it over the BoSoZ). The only thing is that since I'm on a low budget I'd like to use parts I already have, like a 10k dual log pot on the output instead of 5k as well as a high voltage suply rail. I've got a nice torroid to run it off of, but I'd have to have a suply voltage of 100v instead of 60v. Is there a problem with this? I'd use the IRF610 MOSFET so it'll handle the voltage fine, I'd just have to use a larger heatsink and higher wattage resistors to handle the greater idle-current and voltage, right? There shouldn't be any other problems, but if so do tell me. Since the IRF610 and simmilar MOSFETs preform better with higher voltages it shouldn't affect the sound quality, right? I know I could just bring the voltage down in the regulator, but I feel like that's a waste and I'd rather not go that route.

I'm using 100k pot at the input and I can't complain. Also, with higher voltages the circuit might actually work better.
You mean 100k at the input and none on the output? If so, I might go that route since I've got a 100k alps lying around as well. I guess I'll try it and see how it sounds... Thanks again for the reply.
I'm not using a pot at the output. But with higher power amps, or more efficient speakers, you can hear some noise from the preamp. So the best would be placing the pot at the output and fixed voltage divider at the input.
