Box design program not working? Advice for Design program for Mark Audios Alpair 7MS drivers?

Good afternoon. So the Program am using this Bass box pro. So I usually never have an issue with designing a box for any driver . Well this Mark Audio driver the Alapir 7 MS looks the worst I’ve seen for a ported box design in years. Is there another program I can use to get the right ported box design? If size wasn’t a problem or concern I would be making a Big is Better box. This is for my Dad. He is going through some heart issues right now. So the speakers I built him years ago are to tall not wide or deep. So I have the wood and all the parts. Could someone please point me in the right direction? I’m looking for a certain size box and that I can play around with the box size to the one I want to build? Thanks Jeff

Assuming you've entred the data correctly, BassBox6 Pro is little different to most similar software (e.g. WinISD), other than its default assumptions for damping, leakage, vent characteristics when flared etc., and these can all be adjusted in the options to match. Like the others, you can also adjust Vb and Fb yourself rather than simply going with a default option. However, if you want a particular type of box in a particular size with a particular driver, & the latter's spec. doesn't suit that, then your alignment is always going to be compromised.

Greets!

T/S max flat alignment is the 'frame of reference' 😉:

Vented net volume (Vb) (L) = 20*4.968*0.565'^3.3 = 15.1 L

(Ft^3 = (Vb)/~28.31685) = 0.533 ft^3

Vented box tuning (Fb) (Hz) = 0.42*74.724*0.565'^-0.96 = 54.29 Hz

F3 (Hz) = 74.724*0.28*0.565'^-1.4 = 46.53 Hz

(Qts'): (Qts) + any added series resistance (Rs) 0.00 added

Yes I double checked my self. I have had this program for a long time now. Yes it is different than most programs. I agree. I have heard it’s like the old JBL box program from the 80’s? I will have to download WinlSD and see where I go from there? Thanks for your help. Jeff

Define 'small' as ~5/8 ft^3 o.d. is tiny to me. 😉

Regardless, you can shrink it to ~Vas/1.44 = 3.333 L tuned to Fs for a pioneer's BR alignment, though the vent will be long or use an aperiodic vent to make a leaky sealed alignment, which if actually on a bookshelf is a good way to go.

Wow GM lots of info. So what program do you for your designs?

Hornresp nowadays; the math is from the 1981 Margolis/Small design routine that became increasingly popular due to it being written for an early HP handheld calculator where ~0.403 Qts' combined with the box volume [Vb] = driver compliance [Vas] and box tuning [Fb] = driver resonance [Fs], i.e. T/S max flat BR alignment, so the pioneer's ideal alignment became the cornerstone of where traditional bass reflex [BR] ends and contemporary [under-damped] speaker box design begins.

Thanks GM for the back round on the Hornresp back round and math they used. I learn something new everyday.😁.

So I used the W
Here's a simple vented box. Vent is 2" dia. x 5.36" long.

Pretty sure Scott has done some simple vented boxes. Here's one: https://wodendesign.com/downloads/Ibelin-Alpair7ms-Reflex.pdf
So I used the WinlSD program and it was very easy to use compared to the (difficult interfaced bass box pro). The only thing the WinlSD program is missing is the size of the box in the drawings blue print page. I really like this program and it seems to adjust and work well to adjustments for the box and port size changes. Thanks for all your help. This might be my new box program I go to now. Be blessed. If this is going on a bookshelf and up against a wall you might want to consider a sealed design rather than a ported one.

I'm looking at also using that same MA Alpair 7MS driver as well in a sealed 7" high speaker bar that will go into a closed shelf in a TV cabinet.
