I read felt is terrible. You lose on the lower end frequencies. The rubber mat is actually needed for extra mass and damping the ringy platter so it should not be replaced, but you can put other mats over it. Felt actually works quite will with this arrangement, ie over the stock rubber.

Good for scratching though... lol
My Technics SL1210MKII did not have a mat so I just made one from one of the 3mm thick cork tiles I had stored in the loft. Seems to do the job. Ineteresting post about removing the lid to reduce resonance, did not know about that.I read felt is terrible. You lose on the lower end frequencies.

Hi guys,
got my Technics 1200 cartridge overhang alignment tool as well as the Nylon Tonearm Resonance cap.
I have a question.
From my pics, does it look like the stylus is aligned properly ?
How accurate does it have to be ?
(I tried taking the best pics I could !)
thanks

It looks like you have a bit too much overhang, and I cant tell anything about lateral alignment from the photos.

Both. Get it as good as you can, make sure your tacking weight is adjusted and proper, and stop worrying about it. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Buy more records. It's much more fun than messing with your turntable. 🙂 🙂 🙂

done and done 😎
Alignment makes a big difference. If it's off by a hair, not a big deal. If it's off by a quarter inch you're missing a lot of what your gear can do.
