Boston Acoustics RC61LF Parameters.

Hi,

I'm looking to build an enclosure for this old set of Boston Acoustics RC61 I have pulled out of the basement.

Have the two mid base drivers, the tweeters and the crossover.

Does anyone know what the Thiele parameters of this driver is? Cant seem to locate online, and Boston Acoustics responded with my request that "Unfortunately the driver parameters are not available"

Thanks!

They are 6.5" car speakers!

Designed to go on the parcel shelf and vent into the boot usually. Work off a car's 12V battery supply.

They will be 4 ohms and a highish Qts around 1.0 I'd guess.

Wouldn't fancy them for domestic hifi. The bass is going to be lumpy in anything but a very big box.

Thanks!

Yeah, they were from a car I had a while ago... Thought I would repurpose for home use. And I don't mind a big box, was hoping for something along the lines of an AN-E as far as aesthetics. (Obviously will not sound anything like that...) But, I have some time on my hands, so thought I would try. Online reviews of this driver speak to its nice midrange. Now, I get thats in a car, but, no big if it doesn't work. Just wanted some idea of a start point as far as an enclosure is concerned.

Why not? I bought 4 fullrange 4" car speakers with whizzer cones years back. Wired them in series to get it up to 8 ohms and put them in closed box. How hard can it be?

They sounded plain awful. No bass. 😀

But the ceiling speaker idea isn't terrible. You use the ceiling cavity as the box, if you follow? Or a chimney breast.

My objection to big boxes is they take up half the room! 😀

I was trying to remember why I even bought 4 Pioneer car speakers. The answer is they were in the bargain bin of Henry's HiFi in Edgware Road, London for £2 a pair. 🙁

But I have had a great idea. Never tried it myself, of course, but if you have time on your hands right now....

How about a Karlson Enclosure?

Must suit a high Qts woofer. The tweeter is a thing of satisfying weirdness too.

I understand the "Big Box" problem 🙂

I have a pair of Cornwalls and a pair of double horn full range speakers in a rather small room already.

Never considered a Karlson enclosure. Wonder how this little mid woofer would work in that. Plus, I could paint the baffles to look like "Granny Drapes" 🙂
