Hello everyone,
I plan to make myself a couple of speakers using the W5-1138SMF. It seems like a really good sub for the size.
However, I'm having a hard time landing on a nice full range driver to pair it with. In this video about the Dinas, they use the Dayton RS100-4. Would there be other alternatives with slightly better high frequency response ? It sill needs to have a crossover between 100 Hz and 1000 Hz.
I've looked at the Tang Band W3-871SC, which seemingly have good high FR for a slightly lower price, what do you think ?
Concerning the cabinet, playing around in VituixCAD, I've landed on a bass reflex of ~7 L with a port at 35-37 Hz or so (I'm attaching the VituixCAD project file).
In any case, thank you for the help !

I have been considering a set of speakers using that woofer as well.
I was planning on using either the SB Acoustics SB65WBAC25-4 or a small MarkAudio driver (CHN-40, CHN-50, CHR-70). That said, I also really like the Tang Band W3-1364SA, although I haven't used it in a while. Crossed between 300-500 Hz (depending on baffle width) would be my recommendation.

A lot depends on the budget, but a smaller Mark Audio like the Pluvia 7 (P)HD would be my choice probally with as second choice the CHP-90 MICA.
A Scanspeak 10F/8424G00 would also be very good but that one is relative expensive.
Keep also in mind that that Tangband woofer only works in very nearfield (speaker on desk or similar), it goes low, but only on a very low volume. The driver size is very small for a woofer, and that limits the output to about 95dB.

@seantkezm
Yeah those look quite good indeed ! The Tang Band seems hard to find though, probably an old model. But the SB Acoutics and CHN-70 or CHR-70 do look nice ! I feel like the other 2 would miss some power. The W5 can go up to 40W or even higher so I feel like having a full range that can follow it would be preferable, but correct if I'm wrong !
@waxx
Yeah, you're right, I was aiming at around 30-40 € in my case, the ones proposed by seantkezm are spot on. I don't mind being stuck at 95dB, it already seems a lot for a pair (so 98dB technically) in a small room for home cinema or small party. I have to rule out the chp-90 and Scanspeak though, they're out of my budget. Maybe I could extend it a bit for the Pluvia 7. Is there much difference between the PHD and the HD ? The PHD seems to have a weird bump of impedance at 500 Hz, but I don't know if it is that relevant.

I think I might as well give an update since it's been almost a year.
I've been using these crossovers for a while now. I am still extremely impressed by how balanced and life-like they sound. When I show them off, people are...
The imaging is unreal at times. All of the music sounds better, it is smooth yet detailed, all the instruments can be heard when they were intended to be heard and not climbing over each other. The imaging is incredibly solid, not exaggerated at all, just very life-like, as if something is really there. Especially with nature sounds.
