Hi!
I'm going to assemble a system for my parents summer house. It'll be small and low power and reasonably low cost, but I want it to sound good. The amp is a Folsom DIY7293 at around 15 w output.
So tips on kits that can be bought in the EU in the 150-350€ range with a small foot print (bookshelves) and reasonable sq. I was looking at the highly praised GR-research XLs-Encore's which seems like a lot of speaker for the money. Until you factor in shipping, taxes and custom fees...
I'm thankful for all tips and personal experiences. I don't have the skills or the equipment for it and it would be a bad idea financially and sonically for me to try and design a cabinet and cross over, but if anyone has a design they swear by, I'm all ears. 😀
Cheers!

For that application check out some single driver full range projects. There are many good bookshelves.
Mark audio Pluvia 7/7HD, Alpair 7.3/7ms.Fostex FF105wk, others.

My Stances are a really good sounding design.
Don't know about European availability though.

I've really liked the few Fostex horns I've heard, so Fonken in some form seems like a really nice project. But the FE 127e isn't available anymore right..?
Dfonken 125...
...is the answer!
Fits the bill perfectly. It'll be perfect for the space and will be a great project to lure my old man back into DIY hifi. I mean, he's retired and has a garage full of tools... 🙂
Jeez... Everything on this site really pulls you down a new rabbit hole, doesn't it..? 😛😛😛

When Chris termed the name Fonken, we had no idea how widespread & widely this alignment could be used. I have to give every new speaker brand a new name, and somethimes even i get lost in them. There are now literally 100s of “Fonkens” (generic name is now miniOnken).
One of the Mark Audio miniOnkens might suit? But as you have found there are still Fonkens, mostly for FFxx5wk, the smallest µFonkenSET is the design i am prodest of (varuations also work with the Alpair 5.2/3 CHN50, Faitail 3Exx). Some examples of the genre.
miniOnken/Fonken gallery pictures only
The ones at the end tend to be the newest.

Haha that's exactly what I mean about the rabbit hole... You have an insane collection of designs on the site... Such an amazing resource for DIY'ers! Now I wanna build them all... Guessing it'll take me some time to sort through threads and builds and such...
Dave, do you have a personal favourite of the standmount versions?

My personal favorite would be Alpir 7.3eN in the medium width trapezoid, but for most people one of the A10.2/3/p in the appropriate trapezoid.
I mention the Alpair 10.2 because i know there are a whack of cheap used/surplus ones in Sweden due to the failure of a company there that went belly up.
