Among, if not, thebest healights are BMW Xenons. They're bright as hell, thoiugh I have no specs, but recall how bright they look on the street, especially if you have them on highs. My father's friend has a new Bimmer with the xenons, and i have seen what they look like projected on a white wall- a little blue, but very bright. What's attractive is their size and life which is probably pretty long. Check out this site: http://www.bmwxenon.com/order.html
You can purchase a set for about 100USD- straight out of Germany. They produce little heat, and with two, one would have no problem with lighting. The only thing that remains is powering them. They can be fitted to older Vehicles, but I don't know if it entails getting a whole new headlight assembbly. Though, there are also cheaper lights on ebay, etc. Just a thought anyway.

this is the most frequently stolen component on a BMW and a lot of ricers -- btw, it was common in NYC for people to refer to BMW's as "Break My Window"
A "real" xeon setup will cost in the $1000's. For some reasone people keep wanting to use it... It's just not cost effective (unless you own a BMW).
They sell HID kits that cost about $500 a set for hondas and they are about the same as those bimmer headlights. Anything under that is probally not real. My friend has a speed shop he installs them in civics. The only good thing about them is that they come with ballasts that run off of 12 volts
Oh btw sup sweetrobot ltns.🙂

There is a warning on the platic case that says Warning, 25000V. The light is also wider then normal headlights. The blue light looks cool, I like that 🙂
first off wtf does this have to do with DIY audio??
second, those are for ripoff bulbs - "xenon" halogen aka not a TRUE high-intensity discharge (HID) aka "xenon" setup such as seen on high-end vehicles... basically, take a normal headlight bulb, toss in a little xenon gas, and tint the glass to get it to look blue, cutting down actual light output....
third, re: "civics, what a waste" - what other car can you buy for approx 5-8000 for a rather good condition used one, throw in a $18-2200 japaneese domestic market engine, and run low 14s and still be streetable year round (and because of their light weight, a decent handling contender on a road-course)?? don't get me wrong, there are a lot of people with really over-blown imports, i for one HATE seeing a clean car ruined with a huge aluminum park bench or more stickers than the back bumper of a hippie's vw bus, but still, you should be careful generalizing about a car like you did...

I was joking about that. Your really a little defensive. I love see people who know nothing about car try to make there civic "look" fast 😀. What are the specs of your car?
specs? hm:
1986 porsche 944 turbo with a full carbon fiber and fiberglass widebody, 425hp 2.8L (stroker, factory is 2.5) 4cyl, full race suspension (jrz shocks, 800lb eibach springs w/ tender spring), spherical bearings, the list could go on for pages.... *shrugs* i'm not one to wear my pride on the hood of my car so i'll stop now... betcha thought i was going to say 99 civic si huh?

Yea actually I was. Now thats one ride I respect 🙂. Must be fun to race... But only on the track 🙂.
Nice to see we have some drivers on this message board
I personally drive a bone stock CRX Si (soon to be not-so-bone stock 🙂 ), but I agree I can't stand ppl that put a spoiler that scrapes traffic lights as they drive through them, a 2 foot subwoofer, and a body kit that looks like it got caught in a metal bender on their car.
If you want to get cheaper headlights look for the projector headlights (chrome housing lights) for an 88-91 CRX. I saw an auction for just the drivers side light (one is all you need) that went for nothing.
You would probably bust the light out of the chrome housing with the ballast.

I dont want to burst any bubbles or discourage anyone, but I tried this idea.. I got a good deal on some used lights from a lexus, bulb and ballast, and yes they were bright, but the ones I used were only 30 watts. The good thing about them is that they have a very very small point source. I did not try them with a good reflector and condenser lens though because they didnt seem to put out near enough light. The 150 w HQI I have seems a lot brighterm but it also has a larger point source and might disperse a little better.
dmoffitt, u bastard
u need to calm yourself. these bulbs have plenty to do with this topic of diy projectors, u shmuck! This side of the www.diyaudio.com has nothing to do with audio, OR cars. Simmah thyself, and stop pushing your car specs, then saying you're not proud- sure didn't put a logo on the hood, but u couldn't resist here...

cheap...
I went and got myself some cheap *** xenon rip-offs on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=10368&item=2432019242) for my suv, and they claim this: "30% Xenon & 40% Krypton Gas Headlamps. We also designed our bulbs to produce an astonishing 5200K Kalvin Temp output" - they are supposedly HID, ofcourse i have no clue. we'll see how they are- can't lose much- got em for 12 bucks, plus shipping, so about 20 total. I know they will be faf too blue for projection purposes, but if they look half descent, ther may be some light at the end of the tunner for a cheap and compact alternative.
