I can think of two threads recently where the author and or other commentators have been blatantly trolled, that is there ideas trashed in a rude manner by so called self appointed experts. The consequence is usually the thread terminates and the discussion lost, I have also noticed the OP doesn't come back again. Frankly given the degree of this it put's me off from posting anything either.
There are people here from all backgrounds who have diyaudio as a common interest, it would be good if everybody could be treated with respect, the vast majority do so but there are a few regular trollers on here that IMOP admin should admonish or ban.

Firstly I would say to try and not be put off from posting to any such threads. If you have something to add that is on topic then go for it 🙂
If you feel a thread needs looking at by the moderation team then just use the report button and voice your concerns. We will then look and see if any action is needed.

My uncharacteristic outbursts aside, for which I apologize , I don't think the mods are anywhere near active enough on this matter. The trolling goes on and on and threads just degenerate into slanging matches. People get mad because they cannot progress a discussion, they vent and end up getting banned for a period.
The best example I can think of: the CFA vs VFA thread. And there are plenty of others as well.
Stepping in early an nipping this type of behavior in the bud would take some of the heat out of what should be informative and enlightening exchanges.

Or you could just ignore the trolls. After they find themselves flaming and trolling into a vacuum for a while, and being ignored, they might just decide to go off onto a political site to get their attention...
We are getting into moderation discussion which is strictly against the rules, however I will comment. Depending on which side of the fence you sit on, it is possible for either side to claim the other side is trolling!
These kind of threads are the reason we have this note it the rules:
Often when there are very polar opinions on something each side thinks the other is trolling.
If a thread is being swamped with OT please report it. If people are getting personal, please report it. If there is a rigorous technical debate going on, but no rules being broken then, I'm afraid that's life.
Posted in a non-mod capacity, this post may be removed (in fact the entire thread) if the mod team as a whole sees fit.

Some threads become repetitive or conflict prone. The moderation team will, at its discretion, close these threads. Starting a new thread to discuss the same topic is prohibited. Posting material from or about a closed thread is also prohibited.

we do not censor, we allow even stupid posts....as long as no rules are broken...
there are no forum rules against stupid.....and i doubt there will ever be...
if you think a poster is a troll, please use the ignore button.....
if you respond to a troll, then you encourage him to go on...
posting in this forum is a privilege and not a right,
think about it....
commenting on moderation is also not allowed in these forums....
