Birch Ply enclosure for equipment advice

Hi Guys,
Due to the lack off metal machining facilities, I've been thinking of housing & dac, amp etc in birch ply boxes. Need advice on how to or do I need to ground equipment etc to prevent/minimize interference & hum.

Will be difficult to keep interference out of a wooden box, I should think.

Any reason you can't use prefabricated metal enclosures? Shouldn't need a lot of tools to make the required holes - a center punch, drill and a set of files will do the job at a pinch.

Yes I was thinking of cooper tape or thin cooper sheets where I can cut with scissors & line the inside. Problem with commercial boxes is that it can't be make into the size or design that I would like.

Use heavy gauge aluminum foil or cut out the bottoms of disposable aluminum roasting pans,which are even thicker and available at the dollar store for ''shielding''.Any good stapler for installation. Use a pan head screw and a washer to attach the ground lead.

Audio King that's a great idea alum roasting pan. Question do you line the whole interior of the box ?

Hard to say.Depends on just how much shielding you really need. For some high-gain applications (for example,a tube phono stage) you may need to fully line the box.For line-level stuff,maybe not so much.

Best guess? Position all of your stuff in the box,and see how much hum and buzz there is.Then,try slowly waving you hands around the exterior to see if this causes an increase. Then, begin experimenting with the foil🙂
