Ok like I said in my other post, I'm trying to do a reflector for those big cheap 400w MH bulb. I need to know how they work.. I mean, the light come from where? The little "glass" in the middle and from each side or from 360 degree?

Here's some good ole digital camera photogrophay for ya. Should make it fairly self evident. Sorry for the file size; 4.4 megs. :att'n:

Shows the bulb just starting up. Its pretty much a straight line point source down the center of the tube, as you can clearly see. Completely radiant, its just a huge freaking arc of electricity travelling down vaporized metal something-or-other.

Those are 1000 watt bulbs, the arc's not nearly so long in the non-almost two foot long editions (see: less than 1000 watt). bulb. The floppy is considerably closer to the camera than the bulb, the light source tube is definately longer than the floppy. 😱 Rediculous(ly cool myabe? :devilr: 🙄 )

ps: the emoticons rock.

need to match ballast's to bulbs.

the bulb way lying on its side, much like the bulb photo, only the base was on the right in the photo, not the left. so it does run the length of the glass tube inside the glass bulb, from end to end.

electrciity flows in one side, through the bulb making light, and out the other. just look at where the two metal things are in the little vapor chamber and imagine a line between them

matt.
