Bi-wire with old Yamaha AX-570?

I have an old Yamaha AX-570 that has 2 sets of speaker terminals. This amp is reated at 100w (8 ohms). Is this power split between the 2 sets of speaker terminals?

If I bi-wire my pair of speakers with the 2 sets will this just end up splitting the 100watts? Will I not get any sound improvement with this set up?

Should I just use standard wiring technique with one set of speaker terminals?

Also this model has a pre-out/main in function. I would like to use a pre-amp (valve amp kit); Can I use the valve pre-amp and connect into the main-in function to use the yamaha as a power amp??

Hi Brit01,

The A/B speaker terminals are connected to the same output of amp. So if you bi-wire it will make no difference if you connect to the A and B terminals or both wires to the A terminals.

Will it make a difference? Maybe?

I have a AX-550 and I used to bi-wire it connecting to the A and B terminals. I thought it sounded better bi-wired.

So, just try it and see, nothing to lose you are due for a new amp. 😀

I'll give it a shot.
New amp is out of the question at the moment unfortunately. Maybe next year (will take a while to convince my girlfriend the money will be well spent!). Besides that I'm in Uruguay and the prices are rediculous.

I'll have to smuggle one back in my suitcase from UK when I visit my old folks!!:xeye:

I used thick wire for the bass to the B terminals and thin wire for the tweeters to the A terminals.

Just keep in mind what you are effectively connecting in parallel. If you connect 2 sets of 4 ohm speakers then you may get into trouble (not really bi-wiring).
