Better 12" Driver for this sealed sub?

Is it posible to simply replace the 12" driver on this sub
and get better performance?

If the driver is upgraded, you need to be sure the passive radiator is up to it.

Yes it's possible, but it's even more possible if you have it to sell it and use the money to buy better drivers and build an optimal sub. A better driver with a well designed port could blow that thing away! IMO passive radiators are a waste of money that could have been spent on a better driver, they are really designed to get low bass in a box that is too small to fit a decent vent.

I'm looking more for information on a specific driver that would upgrade this particular sub. The PR seems pretty damn stout to me, but I dont know how to judge 🙂

The PR may well be nigh industructible, but if it runs out oftravel it runs out of travel.

I would use an AV12 from Acoustic Elegance because of the lower Vas but business is stopped over there it seems.

A Peerless XXLS12 would do the trick too. I hope your passive radiator will be up to the task! 😉

What's wrong with the sub that you have now? Or, more to the point, what are you trying to achieve with the upgraded driver? A Morel driver in a pretty solid looking box, with a PR tuned to 17hz.sounds pretty attractive, what are you looking to gain?

I was hoping to get higher spl's below 25hz and deeper extension. The enclosure is rock solid and the passive radiator is a beast. But the driver seems wimpy in comparison.

Also, I guess I have a mild case of driver envy looking
at all of the awesome drivers out there 🙂

As far as the XXLS12 goes. How would I determine if the Morel PR
can handle it?

Take a look at this site; , the size of your enclosure should be about right, and you would remove the PR and have the option of a closed box with deeper well controlled bass.
