aletheian - the Tung-Sol are made on the same line as the ElectroHarmonix. Mike Matthews, the founder of Electro Harmonix, bought the Sovtek plant in St Petersburg and set up the New Sensor Corp to try and get back to the days when tubes sounded better. He also bought significant trade marks, including TungSol and Mullard, but did not use them until he thought the quality merited the use of the old names. Frankly, they get better every few months, but any long plate design is almost guaranteed to go microphonic (ringy) after a while. Using screening cans helps to avoid microphony, but it is evident that the short plate designs have a longer life - that was why the major Western manufacturers all switched to short plate tubes before production was discontinued. OTOH opinion seems to be that the long plate types are less noisy and give a "clearer" mid sound, whether for HiFi or music amps.
