4real what would the difference between those and pulling a pair from a beat up old set of PA speakers?
Well, that would depend on the old PA set... it’s probably worth a try if it’s for free.
Thanks for asking. It is designed to bridge the directivity of the waveguide to that of the room smoothly. While also suppressing all floor reflections, as well as all ceiling, rear and near side wall reflections. It is a point on my path to complete removal of the baffle step.Very interesting AllenB, any more info?

I have used the compression driver on a k402 replica and it goes down to 500hz for home use.. i haven't tested those horns yet

How about...
The Red Spade unity/synergy clone? I think it is a local (your continent 😀 ) product. Not sure of price, tho.

Guys bare with me as I respond, I'not great with the interface here.
4real, whilst the occasional bargain has crossed my path here in Perth free PA gear ain't going to happen.
AllenB, you must have a started a thread for this? It looks very interesting.
oohms, that's excellent info and very much in the ballpark of what I was asking initially. I was just on the Canon site earlier but had forgotten about the FS stuff totally. Cheers.
Soldermizer did that kit ever go live? I think it sold out instantly? I'll go check now.
Edit: Soldermizer I have a feeling that the price on that might "if you have to ask........"

The simplest way to do this is to follow Geddes plan of waveguide and woofer. The cheapest way to do this is the econowave.
When the CD goes down to 700Hz, the most sensitive region has been covered by one driver. Sensitivity to errors in response and to diffraction, drop below 700Hz. A good place for a crossover.
Of course what happens below 700Hz is also critical, but in a different way.

I've gotten in touch with red spade audio with regard the horn. Their site does not inspire confidence but the do talk of econowaves too.
Older unities could go down to 700Hz, something that can also be done with a single driver, so not much point. I looked at the red spade horn and I could not find much info. It uses a secondary flare which is a space saving diffraction/dispersion tradeoff, first described decades ago. He says the horn cannot dispense with all floor reflections in his room so it is crossed at 350Hz. So the 'pro' of this particular horn is that octave.
The point of Econowave is to get a big box, an appropriately sized larger woofer, a compression driver and a commercial waveguide (or horn if preferred) and put it together like a Geddes. The project supports basic crossovers for known combinations.

Both Celestion and Faital Pro products are available in Australia.
I know from experience that Celestion compression drivers sound good ( from listening here at home and from Pro use in QSC pro sound products ).
Over at AK ( Audio Karma ) aussie user has used Celestion CDX1-1745 drivers in his econowave projects .
🙂
PS; my recommendation is the Celestion CDX1-1747
