I recently obtained a pair of these in excellent condition.. am brainstorming what could be the best use for them?
Note these are not D130, but are a woofer only, part of JBL's 001 system from the 50s and 60s.
They came in cabinets with the mids and tweeters from Speakerlab 7WA speakers, and also with home made crossovers. The cabinets smell like mold, so I didn't bring them inside to try. They do test good though.

'Best' depends on the app and since this is a horn driver it's suited for a wide range of apps depending on the app and source impedance used.

It's an 8 ohm version. Source impedance depends, I have both tube and solid state amps. JBL mostly used them in bass reflex cabinets, from the literature I've found, but a horn sounds interesting too. Application wise, woofer in a two or three way system is what I am thinking. Enclosure optimized for bass extension.
OK, if cabs are well away from walls, then a large one tuned to Fs coupled to high output impedance tubes with similar cab corner loaded w/SS makes the lowest extension, so what's the layout and how large can you tolerate?
Re horns, they would be huge unless just tuned over a narrow bandwidth [BW] like the old Altec A7 series.

Room is 30x14, speakers are on the short wall, use for movies and music. Currently using La Scalas. These showed up out of nowhere, and they're so beautifully made I'm curious what they're capable of. The speakerlab horns look ok but not sure they're as good as the JBLs.
Bummer, totally missed the room update, so what did you wind up doing?Room is 30x14, speakers are on the short wall, use for movies and music. Currently using La Scalas.
