Best quality price AMT or ribbon Tweeters for 250/350 Euro each

Hi,

After read many opinions about the quality of AMT and ribbon tweeter, I like to consider one of these instead of the domed ones

Many of there affirm that a good AMT and ribbon is generally better then a dome.

In fact, I have seen tweeters of this type in a very expensive speakers even over 10,000 Euro.

I would like to understand which are the most recommended ones within the 250/350 Euro range each.

My idea is use it in a 3 way speaker, with woofer Scan Speak 26W_8534G00 and midrange SB Acoustics Satori MW16TX-8.

About the various options available I would like to find something that has a relatively flat frequency response in the 3k-20Khz range.

Any personal experience would be welcome.

Thank you !!

I have some pricey Mundorf AMTs and pricey ScanSpeak domes and middle of the road Peerless/Tymphany.

My advice after all this spending and listening is that we spend way too much money and time thinking about tweeters vs. mids and woofers. Also, AMT quality varies a lot. I've heard some inexpensive one's that were really horrible sounding, with ragged measurements to match.

A good AMT and a good textile dome are hard to tell apart. The tweeters you know are there and say "LISTEN TO ME, I'M EXPENSIVE" lead to listener fatigue in the long term. AMT's do seem to have universally excellent impedance and low energy storage, unlike say ribbons or the domes of old. The good one's also have remarkably low compression and excellent power handling.

Still after all this I'd say unless you want to spend a lot of money, or have personally heard a tweeter you really want to use there's a lot of excellent performance to be had in the $50-$150 range, especially in the area of ring radiators.

Only for my curiosity:

About listen fatigue the Mundorf AMT that you have compared the others ScanSpeak and Peerless/Tymphany that also you have cause more ore less fatigue for your experience ?

In each case, the tweeters "suffered" from extremely smooth response, so much so that they vanish and do not cause listener fatigue at all. I've used the XT25 ring radiators and Mundorf AMT's in the same home theater and, at least at normal volumes, found them to integrate extremely well. I've also had a chance to hear the high end ScanSpeak Ring radiators in some of Fritz's designs and they do an outstanding job.

The biggest issue, with the best (not most expensive) exemplars really is down to dynamic range and dispersion. The widest dispersion was from the domes, followed by the AMT and finally the ring radiators. From a frequency response and transparency I'd have trouble telling them apart, but off axis I am pretty sure I could. 🙂
