Best moderate price interstage transformer

I would use an input bridging transformer to split the phase, such as Jensen, Peerless, UTC, etc... You get balance input and not have to deal with DC on the primary, which makes it much less technically demanding to make, and you get perfect phase splitting for push-pull. And it's cheaper than an interstage transformer.

Yep, thats the best approach.
I would then go LTP all the way to the OT.

Thanks for the very enlightening discussion. I do have a couple Cinemag input trannies I am saving for that special project. 🙂 When I retire with a boatload of cash (bwahaa) I would love to do an all iron amp.

These days it might be cheaper to learn magnetics and wind your own coils instead of buying them 😛

Electra-print sells an autoformer for phase splitting duties. Not an interstage, requires a cap to couple, but only $71 each.

I have used them in a PP 6B4G amp w/ 5842 driver.

Hi beancounter, if I may which EP autoformer did you use ? , I was looking to use the Nickel Core PSA-2n with a 180F in triode driving a pair of KT66's instead of a LL1660
But the inductance will need to be quite high and a .1uF or .22uF capacitor to strip of DC

I've got this on my breadboard with the Hammond 125e, using the Audionote 300b IT cct first stage with 6au6 ( 6au6= 6sh7 dif pinout) 180 volts.

I've tried 6v6, 6y6, 6w6 all triode mode and triode 6s4a all SE. The best sounding were the 6w6 (22mA triode) and 6s4a. I have not yet tried the Allied IT in PP-yet.
