Best method for audio test files

Hi

What's the best method (modulated sine waves, etc) for creating sound files to test drivers? And why?

I use Test Tone Generator....the maximum length for sine waves in the demo is 3 sec., but that is decent enough for me...The pitches seem to annoy everyone in the house at 90+ dB. I use my Sennies to attenuate the sound so as to not damage my ears.

Actually, I meant, what's the best way to construct the test wavs?

How much modulation of the pure sine wave, etc. Stuff like that. Or should it be just a pure sine wave?

It depends what the test tones are for exactly - it should probably include things like band limited white/pink noise for calibration purposes and tonebursts for measurement of time domain responce - try the linkwitz website, it's got some useful info on measurement:
