best inexpensive fast bass 6.5” woofer

Hi,

+1 for the 830875 vs the 830874, better resolution IMHO and a little more sensitive.
BR 15 liter tuned to 50 Hz, cf 830875 App Note and Nomex 164 from TG.

BR Pascal

+2 for Peerless; anything made by SB Acoustics is good; even their most basic line is really good performance at a very low cost.

6″ SB16PFCR25-4 / Paper – Sbacoustics

6″ SB16PFCR25-8 / Paper – Sbacoustics

NOTE: I did not look at your box size, TSP's etc. so I'm just sharing the above mid bass drivers are all good choices. If you want "speed" what you really probably mean is an accurate transient response.

Do you have a maximum budget; ie total cost or are you flexible on this some?
Luckily, there are MANY really good drivers available these days in the value or budget category but if you are willing to spend more; it is hard to beat the SB Satori line. They just beat almost everything else out there overall in most categories but they are pricey compared to budget. Compared to higher end, expensive drivers though, they are a true "steal"

I am an old school paper cone guy, any other material cannot compete in my opinion on many levels, so thank you for the suggestions 👌🏼

MANY SB mid-bass have paper cones; I like paper also myself. The Vifa NE series is very similar to SB Satori; both have had some of the same Scan Speak Engineers or at least almost same type designs. The Peerless line is also good and I think they also have some paper cones; some of the same history and legacy...

Audax has a few new models; I used many of their older models years ago; I know nothing about their newer models but they also some paper cones as well.

Did anyone hear this new one : 15W/8534T00 – Scan-Speak A/S

Le: 0.26 mH (at 1 K hz ?) but average Qe & Qm.

However more than 100 euros despite it's SCANSPEAK discovery line...

Nice one but only 5"!

Those T/S parameters are adequate imo, although the Qms is not exceptional high in absolute terms but this is a small woofer, the mechanical resistance is very low.

Btw this is a Classic line woofer not a Discovery!

I think the new Audax paper cones are in the category of full range not woofer or mid bass???

For Peerless, Vifa, etc. Go to the Tymphany site for current models. Some suppliers list them as Vifa, some Peerless, some Tymphany...very confusing!

Are you talking about HDA cones fro Audax aka Aerogel or their classic paper line they also use in the PA line ?

For those spl, their HDA sounds quite good, certainly better than the SB Papyrus, but motors of Audax are not touching the more modern SB Acoustics...well maybe not in the first prices lines. Some Monacors should work as well but often to high Fs...

They were talking about paper especially. Not any (Audax) paper cone choices that I can find now as woofers. I had some original Polydax TPX midrange and the Aerogel by Audax both; great sounding mids; it's a shame they are gone now for sure!

I would like to try Monacor myself but no one in the US or Canada stocks them.

I just tried the Tymphany site is currently down. I guess the name is changed once again to be known as Peerless by Tymphany so maybe the Vifa name is now lost??? Fewer and fewer good choices left I expect!??

Another new good choice these days is Wavecor. Also, has the SS and Vifa heritage. Wavecor has many paper cone choices; I haven't heard anything by Wavecor yet personally...

@fitmartin - Do yourelf a favour and contact SEAS directly and ask what they would recommend in the enclosure. The 27TF spec is quite a wide range (2 kHz to 30 kHZ) and thus the 17 cm mid-bass is ideal to match it. Do you have a sub-base to go with the boxes?

@fitmartin - I was taking a nostalgic trip through the SEAS website (my first and only DIY speakers were made with the SEAS P17RCY mid/woofer) and I saw that their distributor in Canada is Solen (solen.ca); there is an 18 cm bass driver that I suspect could easily be a drop in replacement -H1215-08 CA18RNX. You will probably have to adjust the x-over accordingly, but I am sure Solen could assist you.
Best of luck, Kevin
