Scrounging and blagging
Lohk,
I went to Lt's website - looked up a few distributors, rang them and lied!
It's easy really - got me 4 free samples of LT317AT, both now fitted into my PSU's.
Here's the results: -
http://www.sprogs.ic24.net/audio/SNAPS_LM317vsLT317.jpg
Top trace is LM317AT, next one down is LT317AT (lower noise), bottom two are noise floor with 40dB amp, and measurement noise floor respectively.
The Peak at 20k is the soundcard - it's only a cheap SBLive, but works well.
Andy.
P.S. The LT337 was noisier on paper than the 317, i.e. 0.003% Vout compared to 0.001% Vout

Source for LT317AT/LT337AT
I recently bought some of these devices through http://www.AUDIOCOM-UK.COM
They were £4.50 each, so not cheap, but they seemed to have a good stock of them.
