I'll make this quick. I respect the opinion of this forum. I'd like to hear your opinions of the best Doobie Brothers CD to get.
I'm talking quality recording. Real sounding.
Thanks all!

My favourite for music is Taking it to the Streets. An idiosyncratic choice, but there you go. The CD is light-years ahead of the original LP pressing too, which occured at a time when there were issues with vinyl (as if the hyper-thin stuff wasn't bad enough).
Well thanks all.
I ordered "The Best of the Doobies" on CD and vinyl. I choose that album because at a glance, I liked every song. So, it's a good one to start with.
It will be my first chance to compare formats!

I love the Doobies too ...
I also love other high quality recordings of high energy music ... to me, the "standard" CD just doesn't measure up when it comes to listening quality. I am a believer that unless the source is at least 24bit/96k, then your ears are being short changed, your senses are not allowed the full range of the music. "CDs quality sucks ..." - Bob Dylan.
That being said, there are a couple of Doobie discs that I would buy, but they would all be DVD video or DVD-Audio or possibly SACD versions .... not the "standard", USA store bought CDs.
Doobie Brothers: Live at the Wolf Trap (2004) : " ... They tore down the sold out house at Wolf Trap, and that is evident in every frame. Technologically, we did a big 10 camera Hi-definition [video] shoot, so the clarity is awesome. There is two hours of music. ..." Amazon Review / Remarks by the producer of this excellent video with sound track a respectible 24bit/48k / Dolby 5.1.
Best Of The Doobie Brothers Live [ENHANCED CD] [LIVE] : " ... As many know, Michael McDonald would replace Tom Johnston when he was unable to tour. Johnston would then leave the group and McDonald became a regular. 1982 marked a "farewell" tour. ..."" ... This would be a fantastic cd rather than a great one if it included Takin' it to the streets. ..." Amazon Reviews / although not much mention of sound quality, but at least it is a SonyBGM SACD "hack" of the original master tracks.
The Captain & Me [DVD-AUDIO] : " ... Auch nach fast drei Jahrzehnten klingt die Scheibe noch unglaublich frisch und unverbraucht. ..." http://amazon.de Amazon Review in German :>) , but the music is all 'merican English on an excellent rendition from the album master tapes @ 24bit / 96k = "enhanced" DVD-Audio disc. Check your DVD player for dolby 5.1 playback (6 connectors), if not, do the straight stereo and hope your DAC will handle it.
(I have ordered this DVD-Audio disc and I'll let you all know if it "works" = USA source for this: http://www.avrev.com/music/revs/doobiebrosdvda.shtml ... and this Amazon "buy" button as it takes you to the usually "unlisted" Amazon listing = DVD-Audio disc / The Captain and Me [IMPORT] : " ... One side contains 24/192 kHz (DVD-A) and 24/96 (DVD-V) stereo mixes with no noticeable difference between them, presumably re-transfers of the original album mix ..." AV Review = US$37 !! "This is a DVD-Audio disc which is playable on most DVD players as well as all DVD-Audio players." - Amazon quote.)
