best 60-70W DIY AMP ????????

The ? of what is the best amp is almost like what is the best sounding amp ?

Subjective at best.

For an advanced builder the more parts the merrier, but for someone new it comes down to fewer parts ($$$ cost) vs. performance vs. safety/stability.

With this criteria in mind.. both of uncle Carlo's amps (DX original , and the blameless clone -ST) fit the bill. With old 30-0-30 recycled trafos , matching not absolutely required and only 7-8 semi's , these are perfect to learn with.

The symasym and quasi (high voltage) would be a good intermediate projects.

Go for it. Diyers always tend to get value for money and that is exactly what you can find if you check Dr. Bora's website. You can find great stuff there, true hi end as well. I've build Studio, Tehno (Modus) and DoGC mk3. I've spent quite some time with Life Force 55, but after Studio has been assembled LF55 made my friend happy. These amplifiers are really great sonic and stability wise. Friend of mine tossed away Primare I31 after he spend some time with Tehno (Modus). Studio is has great stage, Tehno (Modus) is an allrounder with excellent bass performance and DoGC mk3 H can drive any speakers you choose. They don't need exotic parts to sound great, and can be easily assembled (even by a beginner). Any of these amps would be good for you.

I haven't been looking anywhere else for a while now:

If Legend sounds wonderfull, you should try MODUS. Unbelievable for it's simplicity and low parts count.

Cheers.......Raj.

I hate to do this but I can't help myself.

If you are not scared of big heatsinks, then my suggestion would be to build a balanced version or cascoded version of Nelson Pass' F5.

If your not interested in that, I would probably go with symasym but I would use lateral mosfets on the output.

I disagree. I'd go with any of the other native 60 - 70 WPC amps rather than trying to hack a 20 WPC F5 to trick it into having actual power. The F5 is not a general amp and it is unsuitable for speakers which are not high efficency.

I am not sure I agree with you either. I have built a cascoded high powered version (40V rails) and I can tell you it sounds quite good.
Maybe you shoud speak to Patrick about that.
