I just bought a Sangean LB-100 radio and I'd like to replace the speaker. The bass is good but the mids and highs are somewhat recessed, so I'd like to find something with more prominent mids.
Amazon.com: Sangean LB-100 Compact AM/FM Ultra Rugged Radio Receiver: Electronics
What is the best 5" full range 8 ohm driver I could get for about $60 or less (with decent mids)? thanks

If you're certain it's a 5" driver and that these loudspeakers will mount and fit correctly, I suppose you could try one of these:
Fostex FF125WK
Tang Band W5-1611SAF
I haven't heard either of these, but they should work fine. I'd be inclined to go with the Fostex, as I personally don't care for plastic. I'd also try stuffing some damping material in the enclosure behind the speaker, if possible. Good luck. 🙂

The W5 is an excellent choice if put in a cabinet designed for it, but be prepared for a very poor alignment if you stick it into that radio. I can't imagine that there's more than 1/2 liter of volume inside that enclosure, perhaps even less, so I predict you'll get a fat midbass peak centered around 300Hz followed by a rapid dropoff in bass after 200hz. There's nothing to do about it; that's physics.
Thanks. What about using something like this (just the bare speaker):

1)The amplifier before the speaker; 2)what is given to the amplifier ( signal);
those contribute to the sound.
Hint : put a 'speaker out' somewhere and make a 'rugged' ammo box 😱
Still the ext speaker has to cope with 1) and 2)
What about using one of these as a speaker replacement (just the bare speaker)?

I think I've narrowed my choices to these two speakers:
Amazon.com: Pyle Home PDPC5T 5-Inch In-Ceiling Flush Mount Enclosure Speaker System: Electronics (just using the bare speaker)
Tang Band W5-1611SAF 5" Full Range Speaker 264-918
Which would give better sound (esp. bass and vocals)?

Most speakers need some room in the back/inside the enclosure (the tangband probably 3-4l minimum) to provide at least some bass. The Tb works well in a reflex enclosure.
I can imagine finding out the amplifier specs difficult with this, however i would look at getting a 2way (coaxial) driver for this so that high frequencies are nice and crisp. they all usually have their own internal crossovers so it should be easy to install.
Remember, the bigger the magnet (in this case) the smaller the enclosure, so be prepared to lose some bottom end!
I hope you find what you are looking for!
