I am hearing female singers thru my subwoofer.
Can XO's be bench tested using a signal generator and a scope?
It is a old Speakerlab DAS/SW vented 18" cube with a dual coil driver. It has 2 passive crossovers . The output of each crossover is connected to a sub voice coil and a satellite speaker.
I have pulled one of the XO's from the speaker so I could get the
capacitor sizes for recapping. But I am concerned that maybe there is nothing wrong with the caps and that that is the way it was designed. The woofer voice coil is 6 ohms and the cap leading satellite is 100 MFD.
Also both inductors are laying down and their centers are 4" apart.
Is that acceptable?

This is likely to happen with 2nd order filters, but it's not neccessarily a bad thing. Both female and male voices have frquency content in the midbass range with components as low as 80Hz, and filter action is progressive.
Of course, you can feed the system with sinewaves at various frequencies and use an oscilloscope to see how much voltage is entering and leaving the filter, but you have to do that test without disconnecting anything from the filter.

Yes, you can test them this way, in fact that is how I first used to test my crossovers back in the 80s. Very painstaking though.Victoria said:
