Bench GFCI adapter

Not a bad idea for your bench to use one for everything. There is always the possibility of a slip with a screw-driver of finger with an open unit.
So, the outlet can be a FI, the branch circuit can have a GFI breaker ( about half my house is on GFI) or you can get a power strip with one built in.
I do not have experience with AFI outlets. I know originally they had issues.

But yea. a good old Variac is SOP for amplifier builds. Some actually like an isolation transformer for safety, but the GFI plug usually does a good job.

I use a similar unit inline with my two long bench power strips. I like the manual resetting type on my amplifiers and the like that don't care for rapid cycling of the mains power during storms. Forces you to reset it manually if power is lost even for a second.
