Yes, i know the smaller the image the sharper/brighetr it will be.
But the first rason of my interest on diyprojectors is the size.
Woud like to know if your size is defined by limitations of the lens quality or is it the size you designed from the begining and it is what you needed?
then why is the standar image size (the one used at ideal fresnell lens for 3dlens for instance) 100"?

I find that (for me) an 80" diagonal wide-screen is more than large enough for a genuine movie-theater feel. Folks with 4:3 displays with far larger diagonal sizes will soon learn that, while watching widescreen DVD's, their images are suddenly not so large. In addition, it seems to me that 80" is a good compromise between spreading the available light too thin, and having a screen that is too small.
The 3M varifocal is taken from an overhead projector that originally sold for hundreds of dollars. I was simply fortunate enough to locate the varifocal for sale by itself in mint condition.
The lens will crisply resolve any light that is coming from around the edges of the LCD tray, proving that the FOV is within acceptable tolerances for this application.

i understand when you say that 80" image is more than enough for some of you. congratulations. Your setup is fine. i guess the field angle on the fov is very acceptable (even if you are using 62 degrees, and lets say the lens is 50 degrees designed for).
But you would agree with me when i say this is a litle diference. If you compare the 135 triplet real field angle (24 degrees) and the field angle used on some 135 triplet based setups (46 degrees) then the difference is very significant. people tryes to work with the double field angle this lens was designed for. (most of them because they didn´t know the real field angle, and others because have been cheated by some seller)

ben thats the same triplet that i got!!! i also got from 3m foldable hundresds pounds ohp!!i paid £75 perfect working ohp then n 5 mins i ripped it to shreds. i was very upset to find that the fresnel was stuck infornt of an alu' reflective sheet as the technology is different from standard ohp! now i know!!
i JUST got my large fresnel from 3dlens there nothing holding me back from finishing my benq pj!!!!! except cutting the fresnel
i though you were using some budget lens for focus, so why with this triplet why were you getting blurry edges??? or have i missed something? thanx for the input dude keep up the good work!

Hey ben_tech, where did you get your pre-condenser The 90mm dia., 305mm focal pre-condenser lens. I have the same exact reflector but am having a bitch'n time trying to find a good precondenser.

2. looks like you dont have any cooling over the lcd. Is the only cooling you have in the lamp compartment area? What is the exact cooling setup there?
Have you tested the temperature inside over hours of use?
