Bel Canto EVO 200.2 Amp no output on any channel

Hi all,

I got completely dead Evo 200.2 (rev E 5/1/00), make it work (big 6 caps are new) to the point that all voltage are as expected +/- 46.7v, +5v, +/-15v, blue led on, red (protection) on then turn off few seconds later, and red stay off, but no sound at all with RCA input, also not hearing any sound on speakers, no AC/DC on speakers, also cannot hear any relay click - could be they do not produce click at all - little strange.
Looks like nothing else is changed at all. Also notice all three blue 100uf/35v and two gold 100uf/50v are heater than others (around 15 regulators)
Any suggestions, please ?

I will check it - but need to flip board with still all connected and power it, is there any other component from top that expose connection to relay input - that way can check signal going on it, also any component on top exposing relay coil ?
Is it possible to get somehow schematic for this unit - as I have no experience with this brand at all ?

Yes, it is Tripath, and no clicks at all looks like relays are 24v

The relays are not getting power, traced from relays power transistor, and few small transistors all the way to big large main chip on "mute" pin, that pin is on 0v, so for some reason big chip hold on 0v, if turns to (likely) 5v than relays will be on, so relay contact close, and output will go to speakers.
Tested for signal before going to relay switch - no signal, so even with bypassing relay nothing will go to speakers.
How to find what "big" chip is used in 200.2 ?
Can this chip be order online ?
Is it possible to somehow test chip, could be damaged ?

That chip is a Tripath. My Evo 200.2 amp had a TA0105A chip in it. If you pull up that Bel Canto Sticker it should say TA0105A or TA0104A or TA0103A.

They have these chips on ebay, but most are from China and not trustworthy. There is a Tripath based amp with a TA0105A chip and looks legit - I have a similar one with the TA0103A (or TA0105A, cannot remember) chip in it...

You said you just replaced the caps and now will not fire up? I replaced my Samwha caps (just the big ones on power supply) and had no issues. Look and see if any are not installed correctly...

I sold my Evo200.2, and cannot remember the PCB...is there a ENABLE MUTE Jumper?

Originally 6 big caps are installed by someone else with damaging upper and lower board connection, I removed them all and reinstall properly, now all 46v 5v 15v are ok, but not sure if amp tripath survided missing +46v and later missing ground, I read that missing 12v on VN12 - pin 19 could be fatal for TA0103A - mine.
Will check all voltage and input signals - now I have chip pdf and test board pdf.

Verified, it is not +12v on VN12 (pin 19) measured from VSneg, it is 0v measure with TA0103A on, same zero voltage when TA0103A is removed, could be LM -12V regulator chip or small caps around the chip, I removed LM chip, will test it on tester, will replace all caps, and try to fix until I get 12v - than will buy new chip and install, otherwise new chip can be damaged too.
If possible could you please measure (on your unit) voltage between pin 8 on LM2594 and VSneg, Vsneg = -V1 can be found on test group point [+V1 GND +15V -15V +5V -V1] ?

Thanks

I fixed a bel Canto for a guy I know and ultimately bypassed the on-board protection relay as everything I tried failed to get them working. I used an off board DC sensing speaker protection board and the amp was functional again. That is assuming it is just the relays, you can test the output signal going into the relays, if the signal is good with no dc, it is probably the same issue as I was dealing with

Best of luck.. dB

Looks like mine issue is different, i have no signal on big coils going into relay, no click on turning red led off, no signals on mosfets, will need to replace TA chip, and make sure +12v on VN12 (pin 19), thanks anyway
