For the OP, an isolation transformer is used to break the direct electrical connection in the circuit and the line power. Radios were produced without power transformers, even some guitar amps, in order to save cost. It is ok for a radio with the case and even the knobs made of an insulating material. But the guitar strings are electrically connected to the circuit. There is the potential for the line voltage to travel from the amp, through the guitar, through you and back through a ground. You can google isolation transformer guitar amp and read about it if you want. A common (cheap) transformer used is the following.

Short answer: forget it.
A beginner will have to learn a lot to be able to safely work with this DEADLY device.
I suspect Forum rules forbid even TALKING about this.
An experienced Hobbyist will not waste time and money making it safe, stripping everything out there and building a meager 1W cheesy Guitar amp.
Not worth the time, effort and money.
