just to clarify :
The ground side connection of inductors (and non-polar capacitors)
is based on that connection being on the outside of the component,
(coil or foil) thus providing some self screening properties.

The beginning of the winding is on the inside or start of the coil and is marked with a black dot next to the pin or lead call out on transformer manufacturers data sheets.
Sreten is correct in saying that the ground side circuit connection should be on the outside or finish of the winding, for maximum shielding.
Just goes to show why magnetics and electronics engineers get along like the Hatfield's and McCoy's.
