i'm rather new to the game of building speakers and have decided to start off by building a pair of vented bookshelf 2 ways
i've selected some drivers and tweeters with a reasonable crossover point, but i'm having difficulty on a couple of fronts. Firstly i have very little knowledge of crossovers and i'm having trouble working out which capacitor and inductors to use. Is there some sort of equation or method of working this out?
Also how do i calculate the correct box and vent size
Lastly are there any australian online parts suppliers, apart from jaycar?

Poke around some in the Loudspeaker forum. There is a lot of good info in there. It will give you a good background to the issues involved.
What drivers have you got?
dave
i'm looking at getting some 6.5" drivers, but i'm trying to find some that reach up to about 4kHz to match the recomended crossover point for the tweeters, but still managing to spend less than AUD$100 (for the drivers)
check out the posts on this forum.
there are plent of 5/6" 2 ways out there. it all depends on your budget.
$100 for the drivers is very tight. you might have to stick to paper cones and soft domes from parts express.
what you should look at is $30 for each woofer and $20 for each tweeter.

ok now it makes sense.
at $100 per driver you have a lot of options. since prices differ a bit all over the world i will send yo my short list.
Tweeters: SS 2904/70000, Focal Ti02 (grey), Accuton C12
Midbass: SS 18W4631, Seas 18EExcel, Accuton C23
gratend they are more expensive than what you have budgeted for but it is a start
at $100 each I would have recomended the Dynaudios D260 but I dont think they are sold anymore. The Morel MDT33 is now over that price too.
Vifa's PL series is a bit less than $100 per driver. at that price the Premium 33 or something like that would be nice. The Premium 33 uses 2 Vifa 6" (PL18W) and a SS tweeter (I think 9500). I suspect if well designed and built it could compete with the Proac Response 3 clones in diy land.
hope this helps.
