I never heard of AKG, Mr. Darwin. My bad.

Do you have any opinion on these cans? Are they actually worth $200?

Thank you.

Haven't tried those but generally my favourite 'phones of all those I mentioned earlier are BeyerDynamic and AKG.
I use Beyer DT770 myself but if it wouldn't be for them I'd have bought some AKGs. It was a very close call when I compared them.

You really have to listen to them yourself though because 'phones are even more personal than speakers.

Thanks, Mr. Darwin.

I did some googling and saw them for sale for less that $100. Wally Mart has them on the shelf for $200.

I am always suspicious of trendy "mad-tite" styling. It gives me the impression that they are marketing to dumb kids with too much money to burn. I like older stuff in general anyway- including cars, stereo equipment, and furniture. I'm getting a little old myself.

I saw some Apple Beats headphones in my local Indigo/Chapters store and put a pair on my head. They didn't sound too bad at all and were comfortable. I couldn't see any obvious quality concerns with the build but I wasn't looking for any either. They were labelled at 'New design'.

Is this new design something that can now offer performance that is consistent with their pricing - I'm not qualified to judge these things so I'm throwing it out here ?

For myself...honestly, there has been only one Headphone maker I like.

Esthetically unchanged since the seventies, but evolved technically.

Beats are pieces of you know what. Let me clarify. If you are going to spend $200 to $300 on a pair, you will definitely get your moneys worth from Beats. Their sound quality is only fair and the build of them is horrible. Beats are only as popular as they are because of a great marketing campaign. The younger generation purchase them because "they are the in thing to hang around your neck". I am presently using a pair of Audio TechnicaATH-M50x's and love them. I think they set me back $159. This same model comes in three colors, mine are black.
Anyway, as the previous post mentioned, read reviews from a reputable source and I am sure you won't find Beats at the top half of anyone's list.

Headphones portable + Headphones for Studio

Hi,i totally agree with you guys. I personally like the Kilipsch reference one, paid 120usd ,but they are not made for home use.I preffer Sony and Klipsch over Beats and also Brainwavz. For studio i have a pair of Superlux HD-330,and they sound really nice -better than the sennheiser 568 even if it uses ferrite magnet.Im using headphone amp on IRF610 and BC560 in class A.

In Pro audio circles the Audio Technica ATH-M50x's are very well regarded.

For really fine listening my goto is my pair of Stax ES headphones.
Super fine detail, musical and a pleasure to listen to.
The downside is that they require an amplifier to drive the transformer interface box....no plugging directly into an iPod etc.

Dan.
