I need to make one for the 18 inch TC-Sounds Ultra 5400. Got any idea for that driver and this enclosure design?? Thx-RNMarsh
hello Marsh
happy new year
you could just make a closed box of minimum 100 liter(netto)
adding driver and bracing...I would say around 130 liter closed
and maybe considerer making it apperiodic
but you do realise we are in 'instruments and amps' ?

Should be pretty exciting to listen to. Got any response and distortion curves yet?
especially interested in what happens with a 5-string bass... distortion?

ahh.. 5 string ?

with the small closed backchamber and apperiodic venting, I expect it will stay well controlled, but with a sound I would call 'rich and tuneful'
but not fully tested yet
been busy with my other previous speaker project
just got hold of some more xo parts, and made a very succesful crossover change, and its really good now
but still more work to do on that one too
btw, is that you in the picture ? wow, you look like a real gentleman 🙂
might have the drivers now, in theory
2x 4" as 'tweeters, and 2x 6" for the passband drivers
wired in paralel/series
crossover ? ......if lucky, maybe nothing, just running loose 🙄

yet another xo revision, just in case someone would be tempted to copy this magnificent speaker
since the woofer now got the long missing inductor, I will look at reversing phase on the mid instead of tweeter
and the mid inductor may be a bit too big now

this one is approved, and finished
works great now
spent a few hard days trying to figure out what went wrong when I implemented a trafo inductor on the woofer
reversing phase on the wrong driver completely screwed the whole speaker
and it screwed up my playing too
makes one wonder how many poorly performing bass systems there are out there
but mine works now, and makes me glad playing again 🙂

Just curious, why do you still use passive crossovers in a Biamped system?
Sort of defeats the whole idea of biamping.

Just curious...
me too 😉
but was expecting to go active ... later 😱
just wanted to know if it would be simpler when only for bass guitar
and I almost tend to say, it appears even more 'picky' than for music/hifi
there is no doubt that it affects your playing quite significantly
imagination alone wont do it 😀
I choose not to use artificial effects
but it might have been much easier

a simple PLLXO line level xo should work nicely for this speaker
unfortunately my present solid state power amp have much too low input impedance
or else I would have tried it instead
but when I build the hi-Z pre out buffer I guess it will be a natural mate
and I also had this weird idea to mate the xo with baxandall controls
