I like to hear your recomentations about a great bass driver for a hi-end three way system, i prefer 10" or 8" drivers
It depends on your budget, of course, but my favorite 10" driver is Vifa's. My fronts are home-made 3 ways with a vifa tweeter, vifa 4" mid (in their own enclosure, of course) and the 10" vifa. That puppy handles everything so precisely and sounds so smooth when it extends up to where it meets the midrange. That driver had prompted a few different companies to stamp their name on it and sell it as their own, like CD Technologies, the car audio company.
What vifa 10" do you use in your 3 way, is it the m26 or pl26 ? How do you have it crossed and tuned with the cabinet?
CDT just released the ES series of woofers, look just like peerless XLS but at $450+ a pop. I have the CDT MS-100s myself though, look just like vifa 10s 🙂

Some of the most expensive speakers around ($100,000+ each) use the Focal Audiom bass drivers, or some close derivative of them... Expect to pay around $1,000 for the 15 inch...

In a word - LAMBDA ACOUSTICS.... oh it's two words... darn 😉
Now seriously - check out Nick's woofers - they are a MASTERPIECE IMHO (especially the TD line).
