Has anyone made this kit before? I'm curious to hear about the sound quality. I would guess it would be clean, but I'm just getting into DIY audio and don't know how to judge yet.

Say I were to make this kit and I wanted to upgrade it. How would I go about planning a modification to up the gain? What about a mod to extend the frequency response both at the high and low ends?

What is it that makes an amp good (or bad) at reproducing accurate microdetails?

Please feel free post links to good explanations if appropriate

Here's the data sheet for the amplifier IC:

Don't expect good quality out of this IC. It is made for "voice band" applications like speakerphones and small projects.

The gain looks like it is set by the resistor between pins 4 and 5. Higher value = more gain.

I would suggest you look at one of the chip amplifier builds on this site if you want fidelity of any kind.
