BASIC CAPACITOR QUESTION

Hey guys... 2 Questions... In old Yamaha organ power supply a 35v 2.2uf Tant is specified. This model organ is well known to need replacement of this particular cap. I'm not a techie so I can't say what this Tant's job is but I do have full factory schematics I can scan a page of if needed. So query is should I replace the 35v with a higher voltage Tant or what?
Secondly when I buy more 'lytics for same organ-instrument is choc FULL of 'lytic cap's btw..if retailer out of regular Cap's he told me he has some of the needed values in Non-Pola version and will be OK if installed instead of "regular electrolytic" ...Is this correct?

If reliabilty is a typical issue, higher voltage is preferable. Tantalums usually
don't suffer from aging though (if voltage is choosen sufficiently).

Again, higher voltage is better if there's enough space for the physical size.
Regarding bipolars, you need to know if the cap is in the signal path or just
filtering/buffering power. The schematic would help a lot. If signal path BP is
fine, if power supply it's not. Remember regular lytics aren't hard to get at all.
 
I don't think he is after better performance, just a reliable repair.

Tants in the signal path are a NO-NO in terms of audio quality but if you are just repairing like for like then the higher voltage devices are OK.

Tants DO NOT like voltage reversal. They tend to explode rather dramatically.

You can replace a tant with an electrolytic but their lifespan is generally shorter and they are usually bigger.
