Hi All,
I have a query that i hope someone may be able to help me with.
As subwoofer drivers for home aplication are hard to come by in my area, I would like to use a car subwoofer with a 4 ohm aplifier plate for my home theater. My only worry is that beacause car subwoofers are made for small areas such as the car cabin, it wont sound as good as a real home subwoofer.
If i were to design a bandpass enclosure fo the sub, would this help?

Hi,
And welcome 🙂
The problem with a majority of car audio subwoofers is the specs are made up thus making designing for them with any assurance of outcome near impossible. Where in the world are you and what's your name?

Ah I see, sorry forgot to mention my name. My name is Calem and I live in Australia.
Unfortunately I cannot seem to find many retailers for drivers here and places like parts express have huge shipping prices, not making it worth the purchase. I would much prefer to use a subwoofer made for home application if possible though.

In the end it comes down to how much output do you want, down to what frequency, and how much do you have to spend on it.
In Australia you can get Visaton w300 drivers for A$120, and it is difficult to get better bang for buck than this, the Sound labs group sell them.

Thanks rcw666,
I have been doing some looking around and found the following drivers:
Peerless 830842 10 Subwoofer
Peerless 830452 10 Subwoofer
I was hoping to go with the 4ohm but i just have to check the availability.
What do you guys think??
Thanks

Qts seems a bit low for a bandpass alignment. Look for drivers with Qts around 0.35~0.45 if you're looking to build a 4th order BP alignment (sealed rear chamber, vented front chamber).
All these drivers should work well in low tuned 6th order BPs [tapped TL, horn].
WRT the SB, the SB29NRX75-6 would be preferred for ported due to its higher eff., Qts, lower Le.
