Balanced to unbalanced wiring help

Hi all,
A few threads exist on balanced to unbalanced conversion but this is slightly different.

I read that to invert polarity of a balanced connection, the modification goes; swap pins 2 and 3.
To convert balanced to unbalanced its; pin 3 and 1 tied to sleeve, with 2 (+) to tip:

So is it also possible to rewire this same connection but with polarity inversion?
I.e. 1 and 2 to sleeve instead, with remaining 3 (-) to tip?

Thanks

Check the manual, some balanced outputs are designed for automatic unbalanced operation if you short the unused output to ground. (Sometimes also referred to as a bootstrapping balanced/unbalanced output)

Edit: Consulting the Ecler Nuo 2.0 manual it does not appear that the mixer's output supports the feature mentioned so leaving one pin open seems like the best approach.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for that.
Noise wont be an issue really, the connection is to/from is the same device.

4b (attached) looks good. I have doubts about the mod in my 1st post,
I don't think coupling HOT and GND to Sleeve is a good idea.
Won't the (+) signal interact with the input circuit if its indeed tied to the rca jack shield ?
If anything the extension of (-)* will act as an antenna on the output balancing buffers.

*(or in my case + as I'm swapping polarity)

It all depends on whether the signal source behaves as a floating voltage source between pins 2 and 3 (such as a transformer-coupled or a cross-coupled op-amp output stage) or as two separate voltage sources in antiphase, one between pins 2 and 1 and the other between 3 and 1.

Makes sense now! I don't have schematics, so I will try 4b, test and report back.

I need to buy the Jacks now. The mixer is from a friend.

The application is actually a stereo width mastering trick.
There will be Low Shelf EQ in the feedback loop and channels will be swapped 😉.
