That pic answers all! Thanks for the additional info. I will post if this does away with the click...I called it a pop, but it really isn't that intrusive, maybe click is a better descriptor.
This build used the same switch for select as my first BA-3 Preamp, but has shorter leads as the 10mm face plate led me to use extensions..... the face plate was too thick for Volume pot, selector switch and off/on switch to go through absent machining the back side.

That looks awesome! Dual mono all the way!
Did your first build use dual mono psu as well? If not did you notice any improvement with your second build?

Thank you.
Originally the pre used one transformer but with separate regulators per channel which worked well but I couldn't get rid of a slight hum.
Going to dual mono? got rid of the hum and resolution and separation of instruments improved. I also fitted ClarityCap polyprops at the output in place of bypassed Silmic 2 but the differance was not as great as I had expected.
Zen Mod's tip regarding bypassed Silmic's is definately a good one.

when you read something from ZM , brainfart worthy - that's Mighty Moi
when you read something from ZM , but clever - that's Papa , abusing my account

I used silmic's before in the output of DAC, with door results!
What does mighty ZM recommend for bypassing the Silmics?
I'm using 1uF MKC (Philips polycarbonat)
generally MKC , anything from 10nF upwards
Granted that these have been out of production for several years one has to find NOS. Are the ones you are referring to Philips Chicklet MKC 341 HQ Axial Polycarbonate Caps? Installed under the board to the leads of the Silmic II?
Thanks. Nash
nope and yes
you can see ones I'm using in my recent Babelfish J thread
under the pcb is OK
ZM I have gone thru some of the Babelfish threads for pics and I see the yellow caps but pics are not clear enough to read the markings. Are these Philips MKC344 series? If so, I can find Philips .047uf 250V volts 5% MKC 344 polycarbonate film capacitors that are blue in color. Not sure difference between blue ones and yellow ones. Voltage?
Thanks. Nash
I'm not nit-picky about MKC series - whatever you find , it will work
I'm using (yellow or blue , whatever - they're same) 344 22105 , 1uF/5/100V

So how would a BA-3 paired up with a F7 sound?
That will have to wait, since only Nelson has heard one.

hello,
Can we power this BA-3 preamp with +/-10 or +/-12v power supply ? If we want to use these voltage power supply do we need to make any adjustments?

I am sure it will sound great with any amplifier. There is not much not to like about the BA-3 preamp. If you compare others with the BA-3 with any amp you may find one you like better but the BA-3 is very good as a preamplifier and you could certainly do worse with other designs.
What is the power requirement of ba-3 preamp .. What is the required voltage and current ratings required for it ??
say +/-24Vdc , with PSU capable of at least 200mA per rail , per channel
double mA if you're going to use one PSU for both channels
double mA if you're going to use one PSU for both channels
What no one has thought to put a phono preamp, such as "Le Pacific"?
Or a ULN power supply? As the chip based TPS7A4700
Ultra low noise power supply TPS7A4700, for preamplfier, DAC, headphone amp | eBay
I'll try to see how it looks.

The PSU will only put out +/- 20,5v. I dont think that is enough for the BA3.
... And I sold all my LP´s 15 years ago 🙂
Best regards

Hi All
Finished the first part of my quick listen BA-3 Pre yesterday and it’s sounding superb.😀
Biased up to .9V without issue and just sitting @ that for a few days.
I used 2 x 20V 80VA transformers, 2 x simple 317/337 regulated supplies, 50K DACT and an old case.
All from my parts box.😎
I also used matched LS Jfets from the store (thanks guys), Fairchild mosfets (1k pots) and PRP resistors.
Sounding stunning.🙂🙂
Nicer build to follow with some nicer regs fitted which I’ll post here.
A big thanks to all who took time to contribute here and 6L6 for the amazingly detailed build thread which helped my build enormously.
Thanks also to Keith for his heads up on this project.
Lastly thanks to Papa for his generosity in sharing what he knows.
Outstanding work.😎
