I want to use my B3 for headphones only- no preamp functions.
I'd like suggestions on a great way to do this. SRPP?
I prefer tubes, typically.
I'll be using the TP volumite.
My main headphones are Audeze LCd2's
.
Specs:
• Impedance: 60 Ohms, nominal
• Maximum diaphragm excursion: 2.5mm p-p
• Efficiency: 91 dB/1mW
• Maximum output: 133dB, 15W

LCD-2 are somewhat difficult for tubes - you could want 1 Wrms which at 50 Ohms requires +/200 mApk, +/-10 Vpk
that requires fairly big tubes, wasted power or transformer output

I would suggest Legato 3.1. It was specifically designed for what you want to do. 🙂
No tubes involved, but I wouldn't let that stop you. 😎

Or all three. I might be better off using my B3 with a simple I/V out into a dedicated can amp.
Thanks.

🙂 I'm sure you would!
With all respect for your amazing B3, customer service, and concern for the DIY'er- I must say the Legato is not for me....but thank you.
No worries, but have you tried one?
Yes, on two different occasions- perhaps the enthusiasm of the guy who had the first one put me on the subconscious opinion that it was underwhelming but the second was given a more extensive (and fair) performance. My overall opinion of the system that utilized the Legato was that it was impressively detailed and very easy to listen to. Quite nice. Still not for me.
I'm looking for lies. I'm looking for an emotional connection. Sometimes, a little extra color, saturation, (or distortion if you like) is quite essential for a consistent emotional connection (in my opinion, of course). Nothing does that for me more than tubes. Is it psychosomatic? Placebo? Perhaps, but I don't care. This is my pill. My high.

All I care is that you enjoy the music.
Don't ya wish everyone felt that way? Not only should we embrace others in the unique ways they find particular enjoyment in music, but in ourselves as well. Unfortunately, I'm convinced many people are in this hobby with absolutely no interest in enjoying music. It's a strange club sometimes. 🙄
Thank you.
