B1 Tape Loop

I would like to build another B1 as my main preamp. I built my first with a minimalist approach, no input switching and using a stepped attenuator... it is first rate. The sound compares favorably with the best I have ever had in my system.
Question:
I need a buffered tape loop, what is the easiest and best way to incorporate this complication?
I'm thinking of adding a duplicate B1 circuit fed from the input and obviously bypassing the attenuator. Am I missing a better approach?
Thanks,

Attenuator Location in Circuit

To put it another way:
Does the attenuator have to be on the input side of the buffer?
Could I put it on the output side and take my buffered tape output just in front of it thus providing a line level out?

1, Put the tape buffer in parallel with the B1.
2, Put the tape buffer in front of the B1, this has the advantage of buffering the attenuator input.

I would try 1, listen, then try 2, to see which is preferred, if it's a minor difference, I'd stick with 2.
