B&C DE250 at 500 Hz crossover - possible?

Is it possible/viable to cross the B&C DE250 at 500 Hz 48 db/octave with the right horn? For home listening levels ofc. 🙂

Well...maybe, with a big enough horn. Whether you would want to is another matter.

Compression drivers must be loaded throughout their operating range for proper function and appropriately sized horns for use with a 1" outlet driver aren't going to present much of an acoustic load at 500 Hz. Pushing a B&C DE250 that low is looking for trouble even with a very steep high pass filter.

Few small format drivers work well down that low. The TAD TD-2001 is the only one I can think of that might sound good down there.

If you try this, start with low volumes to see how it does. Too much power will send the diaphragm into the phase plug and ruin the diaphragm.
